Vox Populi

PULLING THE PLUG

It’s sad to see a bud being nipped before it has bloomed. Such a great loss can be fathomed only by the near and dear of the deceased. What caused is a total failure of the system of which all of us are a part. The adamant attitude of the administration to keep the existing grading policy going together with overlooking certain psychological issues have compounded the problem. The students too tend to exploit the institute resources like LAN more for gaming and downloading movies making their academics suffer, resulting in poor performances in the exams. It is high time certain checks and reforms be taken before the flow exceeds the capacity of the plug and the tank bursts.

Suicide I think is a wrong way of showing one’s frustration. I sincerely would like to advice or rather suggest them to think about their parents once before taking any rash decision. Don’t act in haste and leave grief to our parents. Life is not meant to stop in this way abruptly. We are here for a purpose. Try to remember the words of Martin Luther King Jr., “We must accept finite disappointment, but never lose infinite hope”. Wishing this would never ever repeat at any IIT.

I take this opportunity to comment on the top talented pool of India. They are trained to deal with numbers to bring alphabets but not with life. To all of them and for the crowd yet to come I would like to say ʺworld is a much much bigger place than this IITK campus. Life is a bigger file, turn it till its last pageʺ.

It’s time for all of us to introspect. Last year we lost Swapnil but it seems it has changed nothing. In todayʹs world of cut‐throat competition and rapid technological progress we are all turning into machines and are losing touch with our human side. I donʹt know what the right solution to this problem is but I sincerely hope that the institute administration will do something and do it really fast. We have lost two bright students within a span of two semesters. How many more deaths would it take to change the system??? Is anyone
listening???

I believe there is a complex chemistry behind such cases. There cannot be a single thing which can trigger it and same situation does not lead to extreme depression to different persons. Early identification and proper counseling may help in reducing such mishaps. Also we need to be more vigilant and supportive to our peers, who are facing problems.
